This is a great post by Jamais Cascio, who is the co-founder of WorldChanging.com, among other awesome things. In his post, Jamais asks:
“When the world seems to be falling down all around us, can we afford to spend our time thinking about the future?”
He acknowledges that:
“In the midst of ongoing wars, accelerating economic collapse, and cascading environmental ruin,...

I’ve been thinking about this all week, and with the wife away for the weekend and yours truly on the lam, I’ve got a little extra time write on a Sunday morning. Caveats: this is a work in progress. See something that stands correcting? Have information that I don’t? Lemme know here. Also, for the most part, I’m focusing on the parent properties, not the satellite ones...

This is a really great side-by-side comparison of the current LBS offerings, regardless of which app you’re partial to. And, to be frank, it’s a great example of the more analytical, in-depth kind of reporting that IMHO we would do well to see more of on ye olde top blogs.
It’s not that it doesn’t happen — in fact, I think that we’re trending in the right...

Zemanta gets new funding from USV →
Major congrats are in order to Andraz and team. This is a huge bet in favor of the usefulness of semantic technology in automating everyday processes. Zeanta is also an example of a company that doesn’t run around spewing the term “semantic” left and right — but that rather lets its (wonderful) service do the talking.
We had Andraz as a guest on Falken’s Maze a few...

Dave Needle has a really good piece up summarizing the Future of the Web panel at DEMO. Some really newsworthy things were said by top brass from Yahoo, MSFT and Google. And, Howard Bloom was…freakin’ hilarious.

What is the Semantic Web? →
I just got off the phone with a friend who is a journalist and he told me that this video gave the best explanation he’s heard yet, and that there’s still a lot of people out there who are struggling to understand what Semantic Web really means, especially given that “semantic” has been reappropriated (and misused) as a marketing term.
I wanted to share it again,...
Gapingvoid -- More thoughts on "the edges" →
Hugh’s series about living on the edges is just incredible. In this post particularly I like his attention to the concept of personal sovereignty. Very TX, too;)
